April showers will bring May flowers … or so they say. The Easter Bunny might be playing some tricks on April Fool’s Day this year, but we hope he still brings you chocolate. There’s a lot of fun spring events to look forward to so start planning now with our need to know guide for things to do in Lafayette during the month of April! 

April 2018 :: Things to Do in Lafayette

April 1 :: Easter Brunch at Social Southern Table & Bar – Join Social on Easter Sunday for Brunch with the Easter Bunny! The regular Sunday Brunch menu will be served  and music will be provided by DJ Andre Broussard. Reserve your table by visiting www.socialsouthern.com or call 337-456-3274. 

April 2-6 :: Carencro Sports Complex Easter Soccer Camp Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm with early drop off a 8:00 am. Cost is $65.00 and includes camp shirt. Soccer training, skills training, and great fun! Ages 4 and up are welcome. 

April 2-4 :: Mix it Up Lafayette will host Easter break camps from 9:00 am – 12 pm with different themes each day. These cooking drop off camps are best suited for ages 5-12.  Check out the camps and other great cooking classes HERE

April 3-4 :: Play Days at the Music Garden are here just in time for Spring Break! From 9:30 am – 2:30 pm you can drop off your child ages 4 and up for a full day of fun. Your child will sing, dance, play instruments, play games, make a special snack, do an art project, and enjoy time for free play too. April 3 – 5 :: Louisiana Family Fitness in Opelousas is having an Easter Break Mini Camp for ages 8 to 13 from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. Call for details 337-942-1326!

April 4 -6 :: Eric Mouton’s Easter Break Basketball Camp – Ascension’s Sugar Mill Pond Campus: 1800 Chemin Metairie Pkwy, 70592 – Join our varsity coach and varsity basketball players from 9:00am – 12:30pm on April 4, 5, & 6 to learn the fundamentals of basketball through skills training, drills, and friendly competition. This camp is open to all those in grades PK4-8th grade. Register online or pay at the door.

April 7 :: LASOAR Eco-Day – LASOAR in conjunction with the UL Ecology Center brings you a fun day of plant education and exploration into the Louisiana Coastal Prairie habitat. Witness beautiful native wildflowers in bloom, and learn all about the importance of native plants and how they impact our world. Activities include guided tours of the butterfly gardens, prairie, and greenhouse, stopping along the way for mini-lessons or activities, interactive seed preparation stations, seed swap, and arts and crafts.

April 7 :: Acadiana Po-Boy Festival – The Third Annual Rouses Markets Acadiana Po-Boy Festival will be Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Parc Sans Souci from 11:00 am-6:00 pm!

April 7 :: Zoo of Acadiana host Zooniquely Yours Expo from 6:00 – 9:00 pm – Zooniquely Yours is an EXPO showcasing Unique artists, ideas, and items to enhance any event!  Be a part of this new, one of a kind family friendly experience located at Zoosiana | Zoo of Acadiana. Adults and children will have a unique way to experience ART in all forms. As you stroll the pathways of the Zoo, guests will have the opportunity to interact with Artists varying from visual, authors, science, music, performers, culinary and more. Visit Hip Hop Ally and be wowed by Graffiti artist and Hip Hop dancers! All of this intertwined with pop up shopping for everyone!

April 7 :: Descpicable Me movie in the parc 6:00 – 9:00 pm – Kiwanis of Lafayette Movies in the Parc offers family-friendly, movie events featuring crowd favorites under the stars! Saturday, April 7th, Despicable Me 3 comes to Parc International! Gates open at 6:00pm with kids activities and the movie starts at dusk.

April 11 :: Business First – Women Who Mean Business’s monthly meeting is being held at Don’s Seafood Downtown from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm. The meeting is free and attendees are welcome to order and pay for their own lunch items. The objective is to provide a professional environment for businesswomen to exchange referrals to help increase each other’s business, and to provide an educational and personal support network for career oriented women.

April 14 :: Touch a Truck – Hosted by the Acadiana Affiliate of Susan G. Komen 10:00 am – 2:00 pm  – What child doesn’t dream about getting behind the wheel of a fire truck, ambulance, bulldozer or a tow truck? Touch a Truck makes this a reality! Join us for this unique, interactive event that allows families to touch vehicles and equipment while learning how a wide variety of businesses and organizations protect, serve, and build up our community. Touch a Truck event will feature a “quiet hour” between 10:00 – 11:00 am, allowing children with sensory disorders time to process the event. We want all kids, regardless of any kind of sensory perception issues, to enjoy the event and interact with our local heroes and community partners. (After 11:00 am, sirens and other noisy demonstrations will take place.)

April 14 :: Southern Boardgame Fest 9:00 am – 9:00 pm at the Lafayette Science Museum (ages 16 and up) – Southern Board Game Festival is an all-day event that will introduce all levels of board game lovers to an expertly curated selection of the most fun and interesting board games from around the world. Forget every board game you’ve ever played. This is not your typical game night! You will not find Scrabble, Monopoly, or Cards Against Humanity at this board game bash. Attendees will have have a chance to Play to Win, enter tournaments, and engage in organized play in the tabletop gaming area. A few of the more well-know titles available for open play are: Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, and many many more unique and challenging tabletop board game titles.

April 15 :: Heart of Hospice Hosts Celebration of Life and Butterfly Release Ceremony at Acadian Village 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Heart of Hospice will host its fourth annual Celebration of Life and Butterfly Release Ceremony on Sunday, April 15th. Heart of Hospice would like to invite anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one to join in this celebration of hope and life.This event will be a day of remembrance for loved ones who have touched our lives. There will be a reading of names of those being remembered and a release of butterflies to symbolize the passage of life. This will be accompanied by heart-felt music, crafts for young guests, and refreshments. The ceremony is free and open to everyone in the community who has experienced loss and would like to honor that loss. To reserve a butterfly and have the name of your loved one honored during the ceremony, please contact the Heart of Hospice office at 337-232-8159. The cost is $20 per butterfly. Purchases can also be made on the day of the ceremony at the event. Availability is limited at event so it is recommended to reserve your butterflies.

April 17 :: The Dailey Method will host Michael Doucet during an evening yoga class from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. Here’s your chance to lose yourself in the music again – Michael Doucet playing the violin while Anna leads a slow flow yoga practice! Learn more about Michael and his music HERE

April 19 :: Mom & Me Crafting Time at Bon Fete Party Boutique starting at 6:00 pm –  5520 Johnston Street – Create custom art pieces on canvas with your little ones handprints. $15 for the first child, $10 each additional child. Light refreshments will be served.

April 20 :: A Toast of the Town Gala benefitting Maddie’s Footprints – Maddie’s Footprints is gearing up for their eighth annual spring benefit, a Toast of the Town Gala! The event will be held on Friday, April 20th at Le Pavillon in Parc Lafayette. We are excited to announce that this year we have TWO presenting sponsors for the Gala – LOFT (Louisiana Organization for Transplant) and Audi Lafayette! The event will include a wine tasting, entertainment provided by Nik L Beer Band and a silent and live auction. Proceeds from the Gala help us to further benefit and provide services to the families in our region who are coping with miscarriages, stillbirths or the loss of an infant (up to one year in age).

April 21 :: 2018 Mommy and Me Kidsfest presented by Theriot Family Dental taking place on April 21, 2018, from 9:00 am -1:00pm at Parc Sans Souci in Lafayette. This is an event for the whole family – moms, dads, grandparents – from toddlers to tweens.  Admission is FREE to the public and is designed to be an interactive experience. 

April 21 :: The Big Easel Art Festival 2018 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm in River Ranch Town Square – Seventy artists will setup tents in the River Ranch Town Square to display their pieces of work representing a variety of mediums including Acrylic, Pottery, Porcelain, Mixed Media, Oil, Photography, Metal, Jewelry, Wood, Glass, Encaustic, Clay, Watercolor, Fiber, and more. All art is available for sale on event day.

April 21 :: Salutations and Libations Yoga at the Wurst Biergarten 10:30 – 11:30 am – Like Beer? Like Yoga? Come give our yoga class at the Biergarten a try! The Biergarten is located in the heart of Downtown Lafayette and is family and dog friendly. Each class will offer a slow flow class in the great outdoors at The Wurst Biergarten, with Local Certified Yoga instructor Stacy Barton. You can expect a great workout and of course a delicious cold beer to follow (or during if that’s your thing). The Biergarten is open until 2 a.m. and has a great menu. So feel free to stick around after class to mingle with your fellow yoga + beer lovers. No experience necessary, all levels welcome. Buy your ticket now!

April 21 :: The Mulberry Tree Girl Scout Pines to the Gulf Emoji Tea Party & Etiquette Lesson. Join the The Mulberry Tree from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm or 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm for this fun girl scout tea party. Grades K-5 are welcome; please notify them of what troop you are attending with. 

April 21 :Bubbles & Brunch: An Outdoor Brunch Experience, presented by Mortgage Financial Services – Acadiana, is the ultimate day time drinking experience! Join us as we take over Sugar Mill Pond in Youngsville from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m on Saturday, April 21st. Participants should expect a complimentary champagne flute to accompany the full bar service featuring unlimited champagne and rosé samples, provided by Southern Glazer’s. To pair kindly with bubbles, there will be brunch hors d’oeuvres provided by Romacelli and Pour. Whole Foods will also set up a juice bar tent where event goers will be able to “spike” their champagne with fresh juices.

April 21 :: Date Night Drop Off Camp at the Learning Train from 5:00 – 7:30pm – Bring your little ones in for a super fun night of playtime, crafts, music, and activities.  Ages: 18m-5 years old are welcome! Enjoy a night out and let the Learning Train handle the rest. 

April 22 :: Spring Cookie Class at A Baker’s Choice  2:00 – 5:00 pm – All skill levels welcomed for ages 12 and up! The fee is $30 and includes all supplies. You can sign up at A Bakers Choice with cash or check to hold your spot. Deadline is April 12, 2018. If you can not make it into the the store you may contact the instructor, Rachel Noel at (337)806-7747. Please text her your name, email address, the date of the class you wish to attend along with how many spots you would like to hold. 

April 24 ::  The Family Tree will host its next class in the Fleurish series is mindful gardening from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at All Seasons Nursery. Gardening is a great way to become more in tune with your thoughts and emotions. It can be flowers or vegetables and can be done either indoors or outdoors. Pre-registration is encouraged to ensure your spot. Registration is $10. 

April 25 :: Bloom an Event for New and Expectant Moms Virtual Event will take place on Facebook live from Chicken Salad Chick starting at 7:00 pm. We couldn’t be happier that Bloom, a celebration of all things motherhood specifically designed for new moms and moms-to-be, is making its debut for Lafayette Moms Blog as a virtual event. That’s right – you don’t even have to get out of your pajamas for this event! You can attend from the comfort of your couch! This Facebook Live event will feature swag and giveaways for new and expectant moms who join us for “What Up Wednesday – Bloom Edition.” Register today to reserve your spot at the Facebook event online and follow along during our live for a chance to win ALL the goodies. This event is completely free, but you must register and comment on the Facebook live in order to win. 

April 25 – 29 :: Festival International de Louisiane is a non-profit organization that produces the largest international music and arts festival in the United States with a special emphasis on the connection between Acadiana and the Francophone world and an estimated economic impact of 49 million annually. With over 300,000 festival goers every year, the annual festival features musical performances by artists from over 20 countries along with workshops, exhibits, visual art, theater and other forms of performance arts. The 5-day festival is held in April transforming downtown Lafayette, Louisiana into an entertainment mecca.

April 27 :: Twice Round the Block Spring Consignment Sale at St. Barnabas Episcopal School – Twice Round the Block is Acadiana’s most exclusive children’s consignment sale and market. We specialize in pre-owned and new children’s clothes and shoes  (boutique-style, all trunk lines, smocked and cute play clothes). Also selling children’s furniture, baby equipment, décor, etc. and maternity! We also have a women’s section offering name brand clothes and accessories for the stylish momma!

April 28 :: Kids on the Geaux Workshop 10:00 am – 12:00pm – Woman’s Foundation, Inc. is offering a pediatric weight management program to address childhood obesity in Acadiana. The program provides fitness, nutrition, and behavior modification education for children at risk for complications of obesity. In an effort to make a healthier Acadiana, we will be offering this program one saturday per month free of charge to adolescents, ages 8-14.

Every Thursday :: Rhythms on the River in River Ranch Town Square from 5:30 – 8:30 pm  – Music! Food! Fun! We hope to see you there! This concert is free! No ice chests or pets, please. April 5 (Souled Out), April 12 (Louisiana Red), April 19 (Wayne Toups). 

Every Wednesday :: Cafe V Courtyard Concert Series Spring 2018 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm – This seasons installment of Cafe Vermillionville’s long-running courtyard music series is here! Join them for the must do, mid-week break you need – with great food, drinks, and friends! Reservations for a table are a must so call in advance!

Every Tuesday through April 3 :: Tuesday Night Tacos & Trivia with Jay Steiner at the Saint Street Inn – Put those thinking caps on, come and grab some food and drink, and win some prizes! We’ll have draught and pitcher specials, bar snacks, and tacos! The fun begins starting at 6:00 pm! 

Every Tuesday :: Vermilionville Living Museum & Folklife Park Every Tuesday $5 YOGA EN FRANÇAIS – Vermilionville’s Performance Center, 300 Fisher Road, Lafayette, LA – Wind down after work with 75 minutes of Hatha Yoga en Français with RYT-200 Erin Segura. You don’t need to speak French to attend, but you’ll surely learn a little while here!

Every Friday :: Bach Lunch Series 11:15 am – 1:00 pm – This spring begins the 30th season of the Bach Lunch series of the Lafayette Science Museum! Presented by the Lafayette Science Museum Foundation, Bach Lunch is a concert series on Fridays during the Spring and Fall seasons where participants enjoy lunch to the sounds of live music at Parc Sans Souci. Guests are invited to bring their own lunch, or they can purchase a meal through participating restaurants around the Parc. All proceeds benefit the Lafayette Science Museum and help fund future exhibits and educational programs.

Every Saturday :: Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market at Moncus Park 8:00am – 12:00pm – rain or shine!

Second Saturday of every month :: Art Walk Downtown Lafayette – During 2nd Saturday Art Walk  Downtown comes alive as each independent gallery, studio and art house opens their doors for this free event. Art aficionados and casual patrons alike will leave inspired as they explore the Downtown Lafayette Cultural District.
