A Royal Delivery

Kate had her baby! If that doesn’t mean anything to you, then you haven’t been on Facebook in the last 24 hours. Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed their third child, a son, on Monday, April 23, 2018. While this is not necessarily earth-shattering news to any of us here in the States, what we have all been fussing over is how GORGEOUS the Duchess looked mere hours after the birth of her son. She stepped out of the hospital to introduce her son to the world in a fabulous red dress, blowout and heels.

The contrast between Kate’s appearance post birth of third child to my appearance post birth of third child is extraordinary. I’m not sure I had even changed out of the hospital gown 7 hours after delivery much less considered a shower, but honestly who can remember! I was just getting ‘comfortable’ in my mesh panties and paging the nurse for lanolin.

At first glance, those pictures of Kate Middleton all dolled up right after labor and delivery, I want to be jealous. I want to think, “She’s amazing. She’s superwoman. I could never do that.” The reality is if I had a staff dedicated to making me look camera ready at all times, I’d be camera ready at all times.  What I really think is “Bless that woman.” Here she is tired, hurting, pumped up on hormones and has to be paraded out for all the world to see. Don’t think for one second that she doesn’t have on designer mesh panties under that designer dress! I’d bet money she has a donut waiting on her in the car and a bag full of spray, ice packs and Tucks.

Some things transcend royalty. Becoming a mom is one of them. Its one of those things that unites us, that binds us together. As moms we can all relate on some level. That’s the beauty of learning to share and grow community with other moms. Common ground. Common experiences. Common love.
