Today. Today was the straw that broke this camel’s back. There is no longer rage. There is no longer frustration. I can only feel numb.
Because that is the ONLY way I am gonna survive all this damn street construction.
I live off of Verot School Road, so I have been dealing with that hellacious situation for nigh on two years now.
The construction is older than my youngest child. She only knows Verot to be under construction.
She only knows of the bumpy transections, the dangerously deep precipice, the L-O-N-G red light cycles, and those people trying to turn left onto Rue Louis.
She has never turned left onto Camellia Extension.
And then. As if that wasn’t enough.
I present to you: Kaliste – freaking – Saloom Road.
I mean. Need I say more?
The only parallel to Verot east of the Vermillion River, is ALSO under construction.
Good times. Good times.
The construction zone moves up and down, and down and up, and left and right and left again. Those coned lanes are totally unpredictable.
And again, those poor people who need to turn left, and those sorry suckas stuck behind them.
My family’s commute times have DOUBLED. DOUBLED! in the past year.
then. then. then.
I had forgotten. Silly silly me.
South College is down to two lanes leading up to Johnston Street: a left turning lane, and a straight / right turn lane. I sat through SIX light cycles before I could turn onto Johnston this afternoon. It was so bad, it made traffic on Johnston seem like smooth sailing. That’s bad y’all.
And I know it’s just for Mardi Gras. That is my only solace.
I am sure that I will be singing the praises of all this mess when I can cruise down Verot without stopping behind someone turning left onto Camellia, hopefully sometime before my kids are in Driver’s Ed.
