Songs for Weathering the Storm

If you follow me at all or have read a single sentence that I have written in the last seven months, then you know that my husband and I lost our son, Theodore, in February 2017. We suffered with incompetent cervix and delivered him too soon. Here is the link to our full story that I wrote for our local infant loss non-profit, Maddie’s Footprintsweathering the storm

In our grief, prayer has been difficult. Healing has been difficult. Shoot, even breathing has been difficult. I think I can speak for my husband and many of our loss friends when I say that finding the words is difficult when suffering with such grief. Music has carried us through the hard days. Christian music has made the most sense and has given us the words when our own words are lacking. But, all music has given us our sense of self, grounding, and just a general sense of uplift.

In walking down this dark road, we have come in contact with so many people who have been down the road before us or are just beginning their walk. The ones who have gone before us have been a lifeline. They have carried and supported us like we could have never imagined. And for that, we feel that we have an obligation to pay that love and support forward. After two of my husband’s Facebook friends posted about losing their babies, he told me that he wished he had a playlist to send out. Because in truth, there is nothing we can say to make it better. All we can say is, this music helped us and we are praying for you.

So, here I am with a playlist containing the songs that we and our village have relied on. This playlist, though, is not just about infant loss. It is for all of life’s obstacles. So please listen and know that you are loved and that you will make it through the storm.

Rebecca is an attorney by day and a toddler wrangler by night. She is a product of divorced parents and grew up in both Thibodaux and Franklin, Louisiana. Rebecca attended Loyola University of New Orleans and Southern University Law Center. Rebecca married her high school bestie in 2012. Quinton and Rebecca went through months of infertility before giving birth to Maxwell Lincoln in 2015. In 2016, they were surprised by a baby boy due in June 2017. But, in February 2017, they suffered with incompetent cervix and delivered sweet Theodore Paul too soon. In October 2018, after an incredibly difficult pregnancy, a cerclage, and a whole bunch of bedrest, Fitzgerald Joseph was born -- a happy, healthy, and perfect rainbow. If you can't find Rebecca, you can summon her with pot of freshly brewed coffee or look for her in Target or behind the kitchen island where she is hiding from her kids with a very generous pour of red.
