November has arrived and December is on the horizon! Homecomings abound, there are pumpkins on every doorstep, Christmas decorations are popping up in store fronts, and we all hope that cooler air is here to stay. We enter into a season to be grateful for all that we have in the Acadiana area including lots of family friendly events. Start planning your month in Lafayette, Louisiana with the help of our guide!

This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide. We’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. If you have suggestions or additions, please leave a comment!

November 2017 :: Things to Do in Lafayette

November 1 :: Toddler Time at the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum – 10:00am – 11:00am – Parents and their children will enjoy story time, songs with finger play, participate in a hands-on art project, and may explore the museum after the program. This event is free to attend thanks to the generous support of Quest Pediatrics Dentistry.

November 4 :: Join The Bayou Church for Princesses, Pirates and Super Heros. All families with children, birth – 3rd grade, are invited to join us for our most adventurous event of the year. Come decked out in your best princess, pirate, or superhero costume ready to play pirate games, soar high in the fun jumps, and more from 10:00am-11:30am. Tickets are $2 in advance or $4 at the door.

November 5 :: Tinkergarten Fall Lantern Walk is open to all and is designed to help all of us see the beauty in the darkness that comes with the end of Daylight Saving time (aka “Fall back”). This will be the fifth year that Tinkergarten has held Fall Lantern Walks. For thousands of families across the country, this event has become a magical, annual tradition. Join Tinkergarten on Sunday, November 5 from 5:15 – 6:30pm at Moncus Park for their Fall Lantern Walk.

November 7-8 :: Paw Patrol Live: The Great Pirate Adventure is headed to the Cajundome!  There are various times available and tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster

November 10 :: Lafayette’s 2017 Lantern Parade from 5:00pm – 8:00pm. Theatre Acadie and the American Legion have teamed up with Downtown Alive! on November 10 to celebrate St. Martin’s Day.  The Lantern Parade will take place in Parc International at 6:00. Children are invited into the DTA Kids! area (by the Children’s Museum of Acadiana) to build lanterns with Veterans from the American Legion. This is also Veterans Day (St. Martin of Tours is the patron Saint of Veterans). Money will be raised for the American Legion and celebrating Veterans at the DTA! Go to Theater Acadie for more info!

November 11 – 12 :: Mix it Up Lafayette Parent & Child Pumpkin Cooking Party at 4:00pm Saturday and Sunday – Join Mix it Up for some family fun making homemade pumpkin bread, decorating pumpkin shaped cookies with royal icing, and pumpkin pie smoothies.  This is a great fall activity for a parent (or caregiver) to do with their child (ages 4+). It is only $35 for the pair and includes all items on the menu, all cooking utensils and equipment, paper goods, and instructions! November 12 :: All of Acadiana is welcome to join The Bayou Church for our annual Chili/Gumbo Cook-off! Along with great chili and gumbo to taste at each tent, there will be live music from Johnny Chauvin and the Mojo Band, fun jumps, and more for your whole family to enjoy. There is no admission fee for this event, so mark your calendar for this year’s Chili/Gumbo Cook-off. Don’t forget to bring lawn chairs and friends along with you. We’ll see you there!

November 15 :: An Evening Under the Oaks at Moncus Park – Wednesday, November 15 from 6:00 – 9:00pm. At An Evening Under The Oaks…A Celebration in the Park, your seat is more than a night full of great friends, music, and food. Your seat is a gift to Lafayette – an investment in the growth of Moncus Park and our community!The Gala will include live entertainment by the Jonathan Moody Band, a live auction of wonderful trips, a park carousel animal, and private parties; and a champagne raffle for a $5,000 gift card to Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry. Reservations for seats and tables, as well as raffle tickets, can be purchased HERE.  

November 17 :: Cajundome tickets go on sale for CHRIS TOMLIN – Grammy award winner who continues to bring the church together in unity and prayer with his 2018 Worship Night in America (WNIA) tour. Special guests include Kim Walker Smith of Jesus Culture, Matt Maher, Christine D’Clario, Tauren Wells, and Pat Barrett. The tour will be in Lafayette on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 7:00pm. Tickets on sale November 17 at 10:00am. November 18 :: Kids on the Geaux Workshop hosted by Woman’s Foundation, Inc. – Woman’s Foundation, Inc. is offering a pediatric weight management program to address childhood obesity in Acadiana. The program provides fitness, nutrition, and behavior modification education for children at risk for complications of obesity. In an effort to make a healthier Acadiana, we will be offering this program one Saturday per month free of charge to adolescents, ages 8-14. Registration is available on the Woman’s Foundation website.

November 18 :: Yoga at The Wurst Biergarten Salutations and Libations: Downtown Lafayette – Like Beer? Like Yoga? Come give our yoga class at the Biergarten a try! The Biergarten is located in the heart of Downtown Lafayette and is family and dog friendly. Each class will offer a slow flow class in the great outdoors at The Wurst Biergarten, with Local Certified Yoga instructor Stacy Barton. You can expect a great workout and of course a delicious cold beer to follow (or during if that’s your thing). 

November 18 – 19 :: Noel en Broussard – Spend the Christmas Holidays in Broussard this year with Noel en Broussard!  Start the season off with the Broussard Community Fair located at St. Cecilia School & Sacred Heart Church Campus on 200 W. Main Street from 8:00am – until. 

November 20 :: Play Days at the Music Garden – Fall Play Days from 9:30 – 2:00pm at the Music Garden for ages 4 and up. Drop your kiddo off for a day of fun taught by Melissa Stevenson. Let your child sing, dance, play instruments, play games, make a special snack, and do an art project too! There will also be plenty of free play time. November 22 :: 15th Annual Camellia Crossing presented by Miles Perret Cancer Services – On Thanksgiving Eve (Nov 22nd), light up the night sky with us by wearing things that GLEAUX as we run and walk down Camellia Blvd for the 15th Annual Camellia Crossing: Acadiana’s Gleaux Run. Your registration fee and the funds you raise will make a direct impact on lives in Acadiana. Sign up as an individual or start a TEAM with your family, friends, and co-workers and discover the difference you can make together! All funds raised stay in Acadiana to fund our mission to help families fight, survive, and live with cancer. This night of family fun begins at 5:30pm in Town

November 25 – 26 :: The Learning Train SANTA Pictures and Playtime: Santa is stopping at the station! Children will have 1 hour of playtime and picture taking with Santa. The Learning Train will not be providing a professional photographer so please bring your own camera! November 28 :: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer brought to you by Broadway in Lafayette will show this classic children’s show at the Heymann Performing Arts Center. The show starts at 7:00pm. Kick off your holiday season and get in the spirit. Get your tickets today!

November 29 :: Noel en Broussard continues the merriment with the Lighting of the Tree! The event will begin at 5:30pm at 310 E. Main Street at the Broussard City Hall. Santa will be there for photos!

Every Wednesday :: Dat Dog Trivia starting at 7:30pm each Wednesday. If you have not already heard the good news, Dat Dog has made its way to Downtown Lafayette – officially opening in late September 2017. Join Dat Dog every Wednesday for FREE Live Trivia! Enjoy delicious eats, drinks and $$$ prizes for the top teams! You won’t want to miss this!

Second Saturday of every month :: Art Walk Downtown Lafayette – During 2nd Saturday Art Walk, Downtown comes alive as each independent gallery, studio and art house opens their doors for this free event. Art aficionados and casual patrons alike will leave inspired as they explore the Downtown Lafayette Cultural District. 

Second Saturday of Every Month :: Join the Kitchenary for their Saturday Brunch from 10:00am – 2:30pm on November 11th! A perfect family outing or a mom and dad day-date. You can also check out their amazing lunch counter five days a week; it’s like having your own personal chef. For a mom’s night out or date night, stay tuned for their regularly scheduled cooking classes.

December 2017 :: Things to Do in Lafayette

December 1 :: Festival of Lights – Powered by LUS and hosted by the Oil Center will kick off the month of December with the lighting of Santa and much more. From 5:00 – 9:00pm enjoy lighted and animated displays, holiday shopping with a hop-on-hop-off trolley ride, photos with Santa, Light and Learn with LAGCOE, live entertainment, a horse-drawn carriage ride, face painting, carnival games, letter writing to Santa, a living nativity, food and beverage from local vendors, and more! You won’t want to miss this nostalgic tradition in the historic Oil Center. Admission to the festival is FREE, but family packs are available for purchase on EventBrite for activities that require a ticket. 

December 1-2 :: The Schools of the Sacred Heart presents Christmas at Coteau. Join them on the historic grounds of the Schools of the Sacred Heart for two days of shopping and festivities. There will also be a Gourmet Luncheon and a Live Nativity. Mark your calendars now!

December 3 :: Sonic Christmas Parade – The official arrival of Santa to Lafayette will take place on Sunday, December 3rd in the annual Sonic Christmas Parade. The parade will begin this year at 1:00pm in downtown Lafayette at the Jefferson Street underpass and will conclude in the Oil Center.  Santa is certainly the star of this event, but there will also be floats, high school marching bands and dance clubs. The SONIC floats will be throwing collector’s edition Ragin’ Cajun Tots! Kids should bring their letters to Santa to the parade where they will be collected and mailed to the North Pole. The Sonic Christmas Parade, a perfect opportunity to get into the holiday spirit.

December 7 – 10 :: CYT Lafayette’s is proud to present its fourth production, White Christmas! Based on the beloved, timeless film, this heartwarming musical adaptation features seventeen Irving Berlin songs and a book by David Ives and Paul Blake. WHITE CHRISTMAS is an uplifting musical worthy of year-round productions. CYT Lafayette is a licensed affiliate of CYT Inc. CYT is the largest youth theater program in the nation, with programs across the country. Both evening and matinee times are available on certain days. December 8 – 10 :: Wonderland Performing Arts presents “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!” Visit their Facebook page for more information on tickets and show times. 

December 8 :: Twinkle Light Night Christmas Party at the Children’s Museum of Acadiana. From 5:30 – 8:30pm. The evening is filled with hands-on, old fashioned holiday activities for the whole family! Write a letter, visit, and take pictures with Santa. Decorate sugar cookies, mix a batch of Reindeer food in Ranch Outlet’s Wee Acres exhibit, learn to make snow, decorate a stocking, take a break at the hot cocoa station, make holiday crafts, enjoy entertainment by CAJUN ABC (River Road Press) author Ricky Pittman and illustrator Alexis Braud. Become an “elf” in Santa’s toy shop or bake a batch of cookies in Mrs. Claus’ kitchen. Build a “sweet” race car and race it on the CMA’s custom built “Graham Prix” track in our very first Gingerbread Derby. Supplies will be furnished! Children will receive a keepsake Twinkle Light Night ornament. All activities included in admission and exhibits will be open for play. Admission: Members $3 person; Non-members $8 per person. 12 months and under are free. Tickets available at the door or pre-purchase at the CMA (makes a great gift!) Come dressed in your Christmas pajamas – it’s merry making – it’s memory making – it’s Christmas at the CMA!

December 8 :: Christmas in the Park at Moncus Park will take place from 6:00pm – 10:00pm. This free, family friendly Christmas celebration will feature live music, pop-up shops, kids activities, and more! As this event is free to the public, we encourage a toy donation, silightly used or new.

December 8 :: Cooking Series: Try out Holiday Menu Ideas hosted by Vermillionville if you want a fun and different date night. Tired of the traditional holiday meal? If so, then we have the perfect solution for you and your family. Why not learn about other delectable dishes everyone can enjoy? This class will offer a variety of ideas, recipes and more to make the holidays even more special. And, just as tasty – if not more. The session will be held in the Cooking School and taught by Chef Agnes Cappello. The class consists of a cooking demonstration, a three course meal and soft/adult beverages for $50 per person. 

December 9 :: A Taste of Christmas hosted by TABASCO Visitors Center and Jungle Gardens. Save the date for TABASCO® Brand’s 2nd Annual Taste of Christmas! A Christmas-themed festival filled with games and activities the whole family can participate in. Activities will include: Hot Chocolate Bar, Santa Photo Opp, Gingerbread Decorating with Mrs. Clause, a Trolley ride through Jungle Gardens, tons of games and more! December 9 :: Santa in the square presented by Moss Motors will take place in Town Square River Ranch From 5:30pm – 8:30pm. There will be live music and free activities including face painting, train rides, fun jumps, ornament making, pictures with Santa, a Coca Cola Santa truck, and Mrs. Claus stories. Food and drinks will be available as well as Hero Jumps and a Rock Wall. And in the holiday spirit, bring a toy donation for Toys for Tots! Check out more HERE

December 9 & 10 :: Join the Lafayette Ballet Theater for the Nutcracker ballet! A holiday tradition for the young and old alike. Lafayette Ballet Theatre with Principal guest artists from the Pacific Northwest Ballet, and the entire dance community, present the Holiday classic, The Nutcracker. A full-length classical ballet in two acts, based on the story of E. T. A. Hoffmann’s “Nutcracker and the King of Mice” with original music of Peter Tchaikovsky. You will surely leave with dreams of sugar plums fairies dancing in your head!

December 10 :: Noel en Broussard hosts its Christmas Parade in Downtown Broussard starting at 1:00pm. 

December 12 :: Social Sleigh Ride – A holiday adventure you don’t want to miss for the perfect date night or moms night out! Take a ride with Social to view the lights at Acadian Village! The evening starts at Social at 6:30pm with Egg Nog & appetizers. The trolley will leave Social at 7:00pm to view the lights at Acadian Village. The trolley will return to Social at 8:30pm. Appetizers and Libations will be available throughout the trolley ride. Tickets are $60 per person, all inclusive. Seating is very limited so purchase your ticket today!

December 14 :: Home for Christmas presented by Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and Conservatory of Music. Enjoy the sounds of the season at the Heymann Performing Arts Center starting at 7:00pm. Home for Christmas features Roddie Romero & the Hub City All-Stars, Chorale Acadienne and traditional holiday favorites including selections by G.F.Handel, P. Tchaikovsky, I. Berlin, L. December 16 :: A Very Couret Christmas hosted by Concerts at Couret. Santa & his helpers will be riding into town for the 2nd annual A Very Couret Christmas, taking place Saturday, December 16th at Couret Farms. AND, we’ll be in the back of the development under the majestic oaks by the Couret Farms House – Santa will be so enchanted by its beauty he may never want to leave! December 19 :: Enjoy Dinner with Santa at Charley G’s. On Tuesday, December 19, Charley G’s welcomes a very special guest from the North Pole! Santa will be joining you for dinner from 6:00-8:00pm! Don’t forget your cameras!

December 21 :: Christmas with Santa at the Cajundome! A National professional touring theatre company is visiting our area with a school performance of Pre-K to 3rd grade of their national acclaimed show Christmas with Santa. All seating will be on the floor. Christmas with Santa – Carols, Santa and Christmas Galore! The spirit of the most wonderful time of year is overflowing in this hysterical Christmas wrapped comedy. Two Scrunchie and Bangles, have accidentally misplaced some of Santa’s presents. When Santa finds out about the mishap he teaches the well-meaning elves that the real gifts of the season are the people and friends we celebrate it with. December 22 – 24 :: The Bayou Church presents a Christmas Concert on December 22 & 23 at 6:30pm and on December 24 at 11:00am and 4:00pm.  Experience the sounds of the season at the annual Christmas concert. This family-friendly event will set the tone for this joyful season through music, community and fun surprises for all ages. No admission fee.

December 24 :: Social Southern Table & Bar Christmas Eve Brunch with Santa! Join us Sunday, December 24 for Brunch with Santa!  
Santa will be at Social from 11:00am-1:00pm.  To make your reservation visit www.socialsouthern.com or call 337-456-3274.

December 31 :: Kick off the New Year with your little one before the clock strikes midnight with New Years Noon Carnival Countdown at the Children’s Museum of Acadiana from 10:00am – 2:00pm. The parking lot will be transformed into an old fashioned carnival – complete with a tent, games, arts and crafts, and food and beverage.  At the stroke of 12 noon, ring in 2018 with a balloon drop outside under the big top or venture inside for celebrating in a seas of confetti.

December 1 – 23 :: 2017 Noel Acadien au Village 5:30 – 9:00pm nightly. Enjoy half a million lights in the village, rides, music, and food at LARC’s Acadien Village. November 24 – December 31 :: Safari of Lights at Zoosiana – Zoo of Acadiana is open every night weather permitting! 

December 4 – 22 on Monday, Thursday and Friday :: Jingle Jam at the Music Garden! Join the Music Garden Mondays at 10:00am Dec. 4, 11, & 18; Thursdays at 10:00am Dec. 7, 14, & 21st; and Fridays at 10:00am Dec. 8, 15, & 22nd for a 3 week mini music session. This is a family music class that will be 45 minutes in length and conclude with time for free play. You can sing, play instruments and dance to holiday, Christmas, and winter themed songs.
